Would the people coming to America on the Mayflower be considered illegal aliens?
Although they were not illegal immigrants in the United States considering the US did not exist at that point in time, they were in fact invading another person's land. They came to this country to escape persecution and to create a better life for themselves. Just as the Illegals who are coming over now, they had no intention of assimilating with the natives who were already here, took their resources and forced the natives onto tiny reservation slots. It's funny how it seems that history is trying to repeat itself.
So, do we allow ourselves to be over ridden by illegals and slowly fade away, or do we stand up for ourselves and put an end to this? Um...

I am involved in a study of the Mayflower Passengers and the Mayflower Compact. My ancestors, Fullers, Alden, and two others, came over on that ship. Having left England and traveled to Holland seeking religious freedom they then traveled to America, seeking a place that would offer freedom from the despotic rule of England and it's church.
Their expectations, from what I understand, were to remain where they landed and to harvest new lives. Not many know, but the Pilgrims came with their own boat stored in the hull of the Mayflower expecting to use it for fishing as well as exploration. When they unloaded it much damage was discovered. That damage came from the young, single males who used it to sleep in, on and around. Nevertheless, after repairs were made, and for the year these stalwart men and women, along with their children continued to use the ship as 'home' the little boat proved it's worth.
My ancestor's came not for political power, but to be able to worship God the Father as they understood He desired to be worshiped.

The Mary %26amp; John arrived in 1609 and another ship bound for Jamestown, the Sea Venture, was lost near Bermuda. I have never heard of a later ship named the Marigold but there could have been one.

The Puritan Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, MA in 1620. Columbus had stumbled upon the the Bahamas %26amp; Hispaniola in 1492/93, and of course, the first Europeans to reach North America PERIOD were Leif Erickson and the Vikings at L'anse Aux Meadows, Newfoundland. Don't know what year that was, but it was way earlier

I don't know about that, but a fair number of ships had sailed from Europe to that area and surrounding areas to fish commercially. These expeditions did not colonize. Jamestown, Va was 1607, and Massachusetts Bay was 1630. St. Augustine was the first European Colony. We tend to think the Mayflower was the first, but that's not so. Have you read Mayflower by Nathan Philbrick? A great book. Sorry I don't have absolute info right this minute. I hope you will research this family legend.

They decided that they could not change the church from within to rid it of Catholic teachings (which was their goal) they separated from the Church (hence the name Separatists).
So, since Virginia had been formed as a colony, they decided to get a charter to a new colony and practice their religion there. They got the charter and the person who wrote the charter forgot to include the fact that they had to worship The Church of England, so they headed out and started the Massachusetts Bay Colony which would later be simply called Massachusetts as we know it today.
Upon arrival they set up their churches and towns, except they didn't have the separation of church and state. Infact, the 2 were purposely interlinked. The head of the colonial Puritan church also ran the government and preceded over the courts and was the judge in the big trials such as the trials of Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams.
Speaking of those 2 names, people here in the MBC were forced to worship Puritan views. Anyone who disagreed with them would be subject to expulsion from the colony and set into the uncharted territory of what is now the New England area.
The same thing applies to Mexico, except in a different way. The workers are all rather inexperienced but hard working, such as road construction people or construction workers.
Since there is the dense population of them in Mexico competition for the jobs there is high and only the most skilled get to work, the rest are/remain unemployed.
So they come here to work since there is an almost endless need for such jobs as our population is about to hit 300,000,000 from the effects of many things. Our economy is better, our country pays better, and we give them more health care and things like it, so they naturally decide to come over here since it's not easy to start a country all over again let alone a Church like the Pilgrims way back when.

Sorry, you'll have to go through several chapters in your book to get this information. The names of the really important documents will be within the text in italics or bold or they will be in a subheading. So just skim through to find them, then list them and paraphrase the most outstanding thing or things that each document did.

They did not want to belong to the established church (paid for by the government, and everyone was required to belong--see our First Amendment about establishment of religion). The government persecuted them fiercely, so they fled to Holland where they could worship freely. However, their children were picking up secular attitudes, and they didn't want that, so they fled to the New World.
There were originally two ships, as I recall, but one sank shortly after they left. It was very dangerous to go that distance alone, because they had no one to help them if they got in trouble, but they had already paid their money and were desperate, so they continued.

John Howland almost died when he was swept overboard, but was rescued.

When the Leiden church congregation decided to send the first wave to set up and establish a colony that everyone could eventually move to, their pastor John Robinson decided to remain behind in Leiden with the majority of the congregation, intending to come later. The smaller group that went on the Mayflower desired the next highest ranking church official, Elder Brewster, go with them; so he agreed. He brought his wife Mary and two youngest children, Love and Wrestling, on the Mayflower with him.

I am not so much proud to be an American. I'm proud to be me. And I'm from America, so since I was raised here America is part of who I am.
Our history is a bloody one, especially since we are such a young country. The thing is, that we don't have to repeat it. But we are. The reason we are is because whoever is in power decides what we are taught about history... think about it, if Germany had won the war they would have written how they conquered the evil Jews. And people would still think of Jewish folks as bad (at least over there). While they tell us about the killing of the idians, they don't tell us everything. So, we can't learn from past mistakes if we don't know all of them.
And you're right, we would have stolen a deserted island, thrown some hotels up on it, made a killing and then abandoned it when the tourists stopped coming. But in our defense.... so would every other country.

What was the importance of Mayflower Compact?
The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony. It was drafted by the "Pilgrims" who crossed the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, seeking religious freedom. It was signed on November 11, 1620 (N.S.) in what is now Provincetown Harbor near Cape Cod. The Pilgrims used the Julian Calendar which, at that time, was ten days behind the Gregorian Calendar, signing the covenant "ye .11. of November" (literal). Having landed at Plymouth (so named by Captain John Smith earlier), many of the Pilgrims aboard realized that they were in land uncharted by the London Company. For this reason the Mayflower Compact was written and adopted, based simultaneously upon a majoritarian model and the settlers' allegiance to the king. Many of the passengers knew that earlier settlements in the New World had failed due to a lack of government, and the Mayflower Compact was in essence a social contract in which the settlers consented to follow the rules and regulations of the government for the sake of survival. The government, in return, would derive its power from the consent of the governed.
The compact is often referred to as the foundation of the Constitution of the United States[1], in a figurative, not literal, way.
As a side note, the 'dread soveraigne' referred to in the document used the archaic definition of dread, meaning awe and reverence. They were implying awe and reverence for the King and not fear.
