That was just part of the ancient order of things. you could also be burnt at the stake for being a quaker, or kicked out of the colony if you refused to swear allegiance to King James, as my ancestor was, he also married a quaker. Conversely in the Iroqouis nation, women were the councillors/elders who made the decisions, and who won? But on the brightside, (sarcasm)there are those who want to install sharia law in this country, at least in enclaves, impossible you may say, but what were they doing at the DNC convention the other day? Women and men need to be equal, at least until marriage, then it's important for the woman to let the man think he's in charge :P
